Here it is, my aquatic story's begginning that was loosely influenced by my excited daydreams of how badass Jason Momoa aquaman in the DCEU is going to be.
Container ship Captain of the SS Altair.
That's a really cool job said no one ever.
Granted I never took the job to be cool but I guess it sucks a little more because of it.
The job made a decent pay and it was refreshing to be on the sea often but other than that it was an average job.
And then March 19th happened. On the 18th of night, I sent the crew to bed and I packed it in as we were crossing the atlantic but I probably would have prepared more if I had known what was going to happen ahead of time.
When I woke up the next morning I did my usual routine, brushed my teeth, grabbed 2 cups of coffee, still the shittiest blend alive, and then walked out onto the deck to do a few morning stretches before I did a routine deck check. I leaned over the railing to check the waters before I froze.
I saw nothing.
I blinked my eyes a few times then tried rubbing my eyes and checked again.
I was looking at where the water was supposed to be and yet I saw nothing. I could hear the sounds of the ocean but I could see absolutely nothing.
In a confused panic, I started to run and find the crew to see if they knew any better, but before I could even began calling for them, I saw them across the deck all huddled around the edge so I ran over to them.
"Guys did you see the water?" I asked
"yes sir, its transparent" replied Matt, who was an older man in his 30s that was simply working for the money but he was a hard worker and a funny guy.
"How did you reach that conclusion?" I replied curiously.
"Watch" stated Matt as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a flashlight and then proceeded to throw it into the water.
As it hit the water we watched as it made a splash noise and then proceeded to fall at a slower pace.
"Wow. That's weird." I stated as I watched the flashlight sink into this clear abyss.
"So where are all the fish?" I asked curiously.
"Sir what do you mean? replied matt confused.
"Well the water is transparent and we should be able to see for miles through the water right?" I stated
"Yeah of course." replied Matt in agreeance
"So where are all the fish and sea creatures?" I asked.
Then after a couple of seconds of Matt and the rest of the crew seriously thinking about my question, a rumbling began and ended within a few seconds.
"What was that?" I asked worried
We all looked down at the water again and tried to see if we could see anything.
All of a sudden, the usual soft spoken Ehren pointed and asked "Hey what is that?"
As we all followed his finger, we saw a small object moving, towards the surface.
I tried to focus on it for a couple of seconds before I responded "I can't tell but it looks like its coming to the surface real fast. Maybe we should catch it for din..."
And then the water erupted as the object shot into the sky and the crew and I were knocked back on our asses from the water and sheer surprise.
I immediately regained my senses and looked up at the sky.
In the sky around 50 ft above the ship I saw a shipping container and on the side, in clear letters it read, SS Altair.
And then the container came down ripping right through the ship.
That was the triggering event to what later become known as Earth's Greatest Genocide
