Superpowered stories is something I always wanted to right and while this is not exactly how the superpowered story I am going to write is going to be like, it still is good practice. I really want to do a good superpower story and I liked the general idea of what I was going for even though I will still write a totally different superpower story eventually but still hopefully someone enjoys.
Expectations are the first step to disappointment and failure. I was taught this harsh reality early on in my life.
Exactly 10 years ago to this day, a world wide phenomenon occurred that was called The Global Mutation.
While the name implies something overall scientific, what really occurred is much less understood. At exactly 12:15, 550 recorded people had simultaneously passed out and then at 12:17 they all awoke. However when they all woke up two minutes later, there was one major difference. They were somehow imbued with "powers", abilities that were far and wide in range from things like the rapid absorption of light to the control of water.
The Global Mutation made a drastic change in societal behavior. The phenomenon created an emergence of heroes, and villains. These 505 people through an seemingly arbitrary process were given powers beyond those of now mere mortals and even scarier, were left to their own devices.
When Men Receive the Powers of Gods, Unchecked and Unsupervised, What Do You Expect Happens?
In the following months and years, everyday society slowly became a Saturday morning cartoon, with heroes forming teams and fighting villain's dastardly plans and evil goons. We built statues and pedestals for these men and women who stood above us and idolized them. They had replaced churches, mosques, synagogues, and other religious buildings, and became our closest connections to true higher powers and we treated them as such, foolishly.
However, their was one team above them all, the biggest names and most recognized faces, the ones whose action figures sold the most, the ones with the most vocal groupies, the Society of Universal Protection. They were the first team of heroes to form after the Global Mutation and thanks to various factors like their, high level of ability, public image, and past legacies they had become the face of heroes worldwide. At their helm was the self proclaimed "King of Heroes", Mr. Perfect. As his corny name implies, his image is seen as such, Perfect. With decently attractive looks, and his powers of super speed, flight, and composition inter-changeability that makes him one of the most powerful, well-known heroes, and an easily likeable public figure.
And that's why I am confused.
He is the greatest hero that humanity has seen and yet, despite my repeated denial, still this girl is telling me that I am the greatest hero.
